MICROCOSM: Tiny Worlds

It always begins with a small size of paper scrap. Then it grows in size and in detail. A growth that in the end, turned out to be a kind of microcosm of colours and shapes on its own; that interact with one another and form relationships and dynamics. The Microcosm series are little worlds of Irene Febry, the bubbles that she lives in. It's an abstract collage, yet it gives an impression of space and life through shapes and colours. The abstract shapes enable the pareidolia effect in viewers' minds, to have the absolute freedom of imagination and interpretations based on every person's own background, ideas, and feelings.

Microcosm is Irene’s first solo exhibition presented by Puri Art Gallery x Uma Seminyak, where she will exhibit 14 artworks from the Microcosm series. Irene will be creating a community artwork that would be titled Macrocosm. It's an invitation for every person to create his/her own microcosm, placed in the cosmos as a whole.

BIOGRAPHY

Irene Febry (b. 1989) is an Indonesian mixed-media artist born in Bogor and is currently based in Bali. Her works are an exploration of colours, shapes, and materials. Her inspiration comes from nature, such as sand, stone, fungus, bacteria, insects, microorganisms, the pattern on the wall, etc. Sometimes her artwork is purely abstract, and sometimes it illustrates an idea in an abstract way. She mostly uses materials that are around her; recycled materials and found objects because she's interested in giving them a second life. The first techniques she studied were painting & drawing, then it evolved to the exploration of materials and incorporation of mixed mediums. Some materials that she's been using are recycled papers, strings, fabric, recycled plastic, egg trays, and shells.
